How Much Does a Website Cost in India in 2026?

A calculator, notes and laptop for budgeting

Ask ten people what a website costs in India and you will hear ten different numbers. Someone's cousin built one for ₹5,000. A friend's company paid ₹5 lakh. Both are telling the truth, and that is exactly why the honest answer to "how much does a website cost?" is a slightly frustrating "it depends." The good news is that the factors it depends on are knowable. Once you understand them, you can look at any quote and judge whether it is fair, thin, or padded.

The reason the same one-line brief — "I need a website for my business" — can attract quotes from ₹5,000 to ₹5,00,000 is that "website" describes wildly different things. It might mean a five-page template someone fills in over a weekend, or a bespoke, fast, search-optimised site with a content system you can update yourself. Before we talk numbers, one disclaimer: every range below is a broad 2026 market ballpark, not a quote. Your project will land where its actual scope puts it.

The main routes and what they typically cost

Broadly, there are four or five ways to get a website built, and they sit at different points on the price scale.

DIY website builders

Platforms like Wix, Squarespace and Shopify let you assemble a site yourself from templates. The subscription is usually modest — very roughly ₹500 to ₹2,500 a month depending on the plan and platform — but the real cost is your time. You are the designer, the copywriter and the person troubleshooting on a Sunday night. For a solo founder testing an idea, that trade can make sense. For a business that needs to look established, the template ceiling shows quickly.

Freelancers

A freelance web designer or developer is the most variable option of all. A small business site might land anywhere from around ₹8,000 to ₹50,000, and the spread reflects experience, speed and how much they take off your plate. A good freelancer is excellent value; a cheap one who disappears mid-project is the most expensive mistake of all, which we cover in the real cost of a cheap website.

Small studios

A small studio — a handful of designers and developers working as a team — is the sweet spot for most serious small and medium businesses. A professional, custom small-business site typically runs somewhere between ₹30,000 and ₹1,50,000. You get design, structure, copy guidance and a proper handover, with more accountability than a lone freelancer and far less overhead than a big agency.

Larger agencies

Established agencies bring bigger teams, strategists and formal process — and rates to match, commonly ₹2,00,000 and up, sometimes far more. That investment suits large brands with complex requirements. For a neighbourhood clinic or a growing D2C label, it is usually more machinery than the job needs.

E-commerce

Selling online starts higher because there is simply more to build: product catalogues, carts, payment gateways, shipping logic and order management. A functional store typically begins around ₹75,000 and climbs to ₹3,00,000 or beyond as the catalogue and custom features grow.

What actually drives the price

Within any of those routes, the final figure is decided by scope. These are the levers that move a quote up or down:

  • Number of pages. A five-page site is a different job from a thirty-page one. More pages mean more design, writing and testing.
  • Custom design vs template. A layout shaped around your brand costs more than a stock theme, and it also looks like nobody else's. That difference is at the heart of good website design.
  • A content-editable CMS. Wanting to update text, prices and blog posts yourself adds build effort up front but saves you money for years afterwards.
  • E-commerce and bookings. Carts, payment gateways and appointment systems each add real development work.
  • Custom features and integrations. Connecting a CRM, a WhatsApp flow, live inventory or a third-party API pushes the price beyond a brochure site.
  • Content and photos. Whether you supply the words and images or the studio produces them makes a large difference to both cost and quality.
  • SEO setup. Clean structure, fast loading and proper metadata baked in from day one cost a little more and pay back in visibility.
  • Ongoing maintenance. Updates, backups and security are work too, usually billed monthly rather than once.

Don't forget the running costs

The build price is not the whole picture. A website is a living thing with modest but recurring bills. A domain name is roughly ₹800 to ₹1,500 a year. Hosting can range from a few hundred rupees a month on shared plans to more for faster managed hosting. Professional email on your own domain, an SSL certificate (often free but sometimes bundled), and a maintenance or care plan all sit in the monthly column. Care plans commonly run anywhere from around ₹1,000 to ₹10,000 a month depending on how much support and updating you want. Budget for these from the start so they never feel like a surprise.

How to budget wisely

You do not need a technical background to spend well. You need a clear head and a few habits:

  • Define your goals first. A site that must generate enquiries is a different brief from one that just needs to exist. Clarity here prevents paying for things you will never use.
  • Get itemised written quotes. A single lump sum tells you nothing. A breakdown — design, pages, CMS, content, SEO, maintenance — lets you compare like with like and see what you are actually buying.
  • Be wary of the outlier. If one quote sits far below the rest, ask what has been left out. It is usually the content, the responsiveness, the support, or all three.
  • Phase the build. There is no rule that everything must ship at once. Launch a strong core site now, add the store or the booking system next quarter.
  • Own your assets. Register the domain, hosting and analytics accounts in your own name and email. If a relationship ends, you keep the keys to your own house.

Location matters too, and often in your favour. A studio outside the metros — here in Coimbatore, or across Tamil Nadu — can deliver metro-grade work at meaningfully lower rates than a Mumbai or Bengaluru agency, simply because overheads are lower. Talent and process, not the pin code, decide quality.

The most reassuring sign in any conversation is a partner willing to put pricing in writing before the work begins. That is exactly how we operate; you can see our own pricing page as an example of stating numbers up front. A fair website is not the cheapest one or the dearest one — it is the one whose scope you understand, priced by someone who explained it plainly.
